Election Day is Coming
November 4th is just around the corner, so I thought it might not be such a bad idea to throw out some thoughts concerning the big day.
1. It would be very wise of us to take elections seriously. Romans 13:1-2 states,
“1Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
This is huge! We are mandated by God to obey our elected officials and if we don’t we are rebelling against God Himself.
2. We are direct to pray for our civil leaders. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 says,
“1I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— 2for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.”
Pray, pray, pray. We are not directed to criticize our leaders, but to pray for them. Let’s pray for God’s will to be accomplished in our elections and then no matter who is elected let’s commit to praying for them to receive God’s wisdom in the leading of our nation. God wants our country to be a place where His followers may live such a life that others may embrace Jesus Christ as their supreme leader and rescuer.
3. Our next president will be making many judicial appointments, including the Supreme Court. This is vital time in America. Please pray, study the Bible and make your vote accordingly.
This coming Sunday I will be preaching on, "The Biblical Characteristics of a Civil Leader."
I look forward to seeing you at our worship gathering and at the polls!

I keep thinking about the implications of this election. It's pretty scary. Whatever happens, we do need to be praying, and I have a feeling more is needed.
Wasn't it Billy Graham that said something like,
"To bring a nation to it's feet, first it must fall to it's knees"
I'm so thankful that God is sovereign.
